Quartier du Temple

The Quartier du Temple designates that was once occupied by the Knights Templar’s central stronghold, bounded bu rue de Bretagne, rue de Bretagne, rue du Temple, rue de Béranger and rue de Picardie. Nothing of the complex, which included a tower and church, remains beyond the name "Temple", preserved in the Square du Temple gardens and the Carreau du Temple, a clothes market with a heavy preponderance of leather gear (Tues-Sun mornings) housed in a fine halles-like structure. Rue de la Corderie, a pretty little street on the north side, opening into an otherworldly place, has a couple of pleasant cafes under the trees.
